About Colm Tóibín
Colm Tóibín was born in Enniscorthy in 1955. He graduated from UCD with a BA in History and English and left for Barcelona in 1975. The city features in several works including The South, the non-fiction Homage to Barcelona, and the recent News from Dublin collection.
In 1978, Tóibín returned to Ireland in 1978 where he worked as a journalist and magazine editor, publishing his first novel in 1990. Three of his novels - The Blackwater Lightship, The Master, and The Testament of Mary - have been shortlisted for the Booker Prize. In 2006, he won the International Dublin Literary Award for The Master and the Costa Novel Award in 2009 for Brooklyn. Today, Tóibín divides his time between Wexford, Dublin, New York and Los Angeles.
